The first light
Before there was a house, there was a flame. On candles, dusk, and the smallest ritual we know.

A candle is an argument against the overhead. It is a decision, not a decoration: that the evening should have an edge, that the table should gather people into a smaller circle of light.
We thought for a long time about making them. Beeswax, a quiet scent, a vessel you would keep. The plan did not survive contact with a folding table and a Saturday crowd — and that was a kindness. Some things want a house, not a booth.
So we start with the ritual instead of the SKU. Strike a match as the light goes. Use one taper, not twelve. Let the wax do what wax does. If a Gratia candle comes later, it will have to be worthy of this small, daily act.
Until then: linen at the window, a wooden table, three flames, and the permission to stop performing the day.
